Spring Tune-Up Time: Get Your Garage Door Ready for the Warm Months

Winter took a toll on your garage door. Here's a simple spring tune-up checklist to keep it running smoothly through summer in Northern Colorado.

After a brutal Colorado winter, your garage door deserves some attention. Here's what we check on every spring tune-up and what you can do yourself.

Spring is finally here in Northern Colorado, and if your garage door made it through another winter of subzero mornings and 50-degree afternoon swings, it's earned a little TLC. A spring tune-up now will save you from a surprise breakdown when it's 95°F in July and you're trying to leave for vacation.

Start with a visual once-over. Look at the springs, cables, rollers, and hinges. Any rust, fraying, or gaps in the spring coils? That's a red flag. Cables especially take a beating from winter moisture — if you see rust or any broken strands, stop using the door and call us. A snapped cable while the door is up is a bad day.

Lube everything up. Winter lubricant gets gummy and dries out by April. Use a silicone or lithium-based spray on the springs, hinges, rollers, and the opener's chain or screw drive. Skip the tracks themselves — those should stay dry. Five minutes of lubrication makes a noticeable difference in how quietly your door runs.
