Should You Fix Your Garage Door or Just Get a New One?

Not sure if you should repair or replace your garage door? Here's how to decide — no sales pitch, just the honest math.

We get this question all the time. Here's how we think about it — and we'll tell you the same thing whether we're quoting the job or not.

"Should I just get a new door?" We probably hear this five times a week. And honestly, the answer depends on a few things — not all of them are about money.

Repair usually makes sense when the door is under 15 years old, the damage is limited to a panel or two, or the issue is mechanical (springs, cables, opener). Most repairs around here run $150 to $500. If the repair cost is less than half what a new door would cost, it's usually the right call.

Replacement starts making sense when the door is 15-20+ years old, you've got multiple damaged panels, the thing has no insulation and your garage is freezing all winter, or you're just tired of throwing money at repairs every year. New doors in the Fort Collins area typically run $800 to $3,500 depending on size and features.
